About Our Peshtemals
What is a peshtemal?
A peshtemal is a traditional Turkish towel, flat-woven from cotton and used for centuries in the hammams (bath houses) of Anatolia. It's lighter and more compact than a terry towel, dries much faster, and gets softer every time you wash it. Ours are handwoven in Denizli, Turkey, a region known for its weaving heritage.
What can I use a peshtemal for?
Almost anything. They make wonderful bath and beach towels, but our customers also use them as throws, picnic blankets, table runners, sarongs, and even lightweight scarves. Because they fold down so small, they're a favorite for travel.
How big are they?
Each peshtemal measures approximately [dimensions, e.g. 37" x 70" / 95cm x 180cm].
Are they really handwoven?
Yes. Our peshtemals are woven on traditional looms by skilled artisans in Denizli, using [100% Turkish cotton]. Because each piece is made by hand, small variations in weave and fringe are natural — they're a sign of authenticity, not a flaw.
Product Care
How do I wash my peshtemal?
Machine wash cold or warm on a gentle cycle with like colors. Tumble dry on low, or line dry to help the fibers last longer.
Do I need to do anything before first use?
We recommend one wash before first use to set the fibers and bring out the softness. Peshtemals become softer and more absorbent with every wash, so they only get better with time.
Should I use fabric softener?
No — please skip the fabric softener. It coats the cotton fibers and actually reduces absorbency over time. Your peshtemal will soften naturally on its own.
What if the fringe gets tangled?
The twisted fringe can loosen a little in the wash, which is completely normal. Simply comb it straight with your fingers while damp. Avoid pulling any loose threads — trim them with scissors instead.

Where do you ship?
We currently ship within the United States only. We hope to offer international shipping in the future — check back with us.
How much is shipping?
Shipping is free on all US orders over $70. Orders under $70 are charged a flat rate of $6.75, calculated at checkout. Full details are on our Shipping Policy page.
How long will my order take?
We process and ship orders within 5–7 business days. Once shipped, standard delivery takes another 5–7 business days, with faster expedited options available at checkout.
How do I track my order?
As soon as your order ships, we'll email you a tracking number so you can follow it on its way to you. If you don't see it, please check your spam folder, then reach out.
Returns & Exchanges
What is your return policy?
You have 30 days from delivery to return an unused, unwashed peshtemal in its original condition. Full details, including how to start a return, are on our Refund & Returns Policy page.
Can I exchange for a different color?
Yes, subject to availability. Just email us at contact@thehouseofaegean.com and we'll help you swap it.
My item arrived damaged — what do I do?
We're so sorry! Email us at contact@thehouseofaegean.com within 7 days of delivery with your order number and a photo, and we'll arrange a replacement or full refund, whichever you prefer.
