What is a Peshtemal?
The peshtemal is a flat-woven cotton towel born on the Aegean shores of Turkey, where it has been part of daily life for over five hundred years. It began in the hammams — the marble bathhouses of Anatolia — and never left.
In Turkey today, the peshtemal is everywhere the water is: wrapped around shoulders at the hammam, laid out by the pool, folded into a beach bag, warming a bench in the sauna. It is not a niche object there. It is simply what a towel is meant to be.
